Sunday November 5th

 Win Hill

We went first to Hathersage but the usual car park was full- at 9:30 in the morning! We decided to give Heatherdene and the Ladybower area a go and managed to squeeze into the car park at Heatherdene. This is a walk that we'd done before, but not for a while and it is always worth doing because of the excellent views in all directions. As we started, the light was lovely and the colours of the trees up Parkin Clough were vivid.

We set out, crossing the Ladybower Dam with its magnificent spillway to the muddy path through the woods.

Up Parkin Clough, muddy and slippy as usual, until the path opened out and leads to the summit of Win Hill.

We were lucky with the weather as Win Hill gave us its splendid panoramic views- we've been there in the mist with just grey all around us. We walked on to Hope Cross with changing aspects of The Great Ridge and Kinder.

We stopped at Hope Cross and it certainly felt like a great place to enjoy our "Sunday Lunch"!

Perfect spot for Sunday Lunch!

After our lunch we followed the path down through the trees to the Haggwater Bridge, crossing the river feeding Ladybower and went up the other side past Hagg Farm. After various twists and turns, the path emerged near Redwood Coppice. From there, it was a pleasant walk through open fields with great views, including across the northern limb of Ladybower Reservoir (out of sight) to The Wheel Stones on Derwent Edge.

We stayed on the main path, skirting left of the two camel humps of Crook Hill, ending with a turn onto the busy Snake Road and a short amble back to the car.

The weather was great and the small amount of rain didn't dampen our spirits- instead, it provided us with some excellent rainbows and dramatic views. A good day out!

9.1 Miles, 520m ascent.
