David and Jacinta's Walks- 2023

Moscar, Stanage and Ughill It was somewhat fitting that we headed out on Boxing Day to do a walk that we started the year with on January 2nd. We parked near Moscar Lodge and walked up to Stanage End. The day was (miraculously) dry and the views good, but the view of The Great Ridge and Kinder were not as good as on the second- the photo from the 2nd January is the background to this year's blog... this is how it looked on 26th December! Year-end view of The Great Ridge and Kinder At the Stanage Pole we enjoyed the last of Olivia's shortbread and then ambled down to Redmires Reservoir. It was busy there, with lots of dog walkers out for a stroll. We headed across  rough moorland to come to the Sheffield road, then we struck out across the fields, heading for the bench below Crawshaw Lodge where we stopped for lunch.   Stanage End, Stanedge Pole, Ughill and Moscar It was Bank Holiday Monday and we decided to do a walk that we had not done in 2022- so something of a winning combination. We parked at Stanage End and walked up to the end of Stanage Edge. It was an amazingly clear, sunny day with great views far and wide. The Kinder Plateau- from Win Hill to Fairbrook Naze We walked along, past High Neb, and turned eastwards past Stanedge Pole pole and down to Redmires Reservoir. This area was very popular, not surprising given its nearness to Sheffield. Our route turned northwards across some fields and then across rough moorland, crossing a stream and the Sheffield road just before the incongruously named Surrey Farm. Stream crossing before Surrey Farm We crossed several fields up to the isolated Crawshaw Lodge with its Quaker cemetery (not Jewish, as David had mis-remembered). It would be good to go in and explore it sometime. The noisy peacocks that are sometimes around the lodge were not there...
